hi, since I've owned my Audi the only real problems i've had have been EGR valve related.

i replaced my last 1 with a siemens, it lasted 18 months.it still looked brand new but would stick open 1mm when slightly clogged.
this caused my car to smoke under acceleration a lot more than normal.

my mpg hit rock bottom, it was running rich i think.

anyhow, i removed it and cleaned it 3 times in 3 months.

i was left with 2 options, new EGR valve or remap and EGR delete.

i went for the remap and delete. the car runs great, more power, torque, but today with the windows down, i heard a hissing from 1500 rpm uupwards.

my questions are this, if it doesn't use the EGR what route do the gases take ?

do you think the hissing is caused by the gasses being re routed or have i split a pipe ?

if so, which pipe would it be cos it all looks good to me from a quick gander under the bonnet.

thanks in advance,

Gazwould

The software was deleted the egr is now shut, I haven't had sooty tail pipes since
i suspect a split pipe I can hear a loud hissing at 2000 revs upwards
mpg has dropped as well
going to have a look tomorrow
does anyone have a diagram of the piping?
cheers

If you're lucky it will be a split pipe. Hopefully not a split intercooler (I had this on my BRE engine A6) which is more common than you'd hope.

Found the problem, intercooler has split and blown the seal out.
by the looks of the old oil it's been going a while.
got 1 ordered from euro car parts £63
then it's time to re assemble the front end
theres a good video on YouTube of how to remove the front bumper, light out and just pop the intercooler off
reckon I've saved myself a few quid by doing it myself.
