Hi, I am new to this forum, but was hoping that someone out there might be able to give me a steer in the right direction.
I have a 2012 A6 Bitdi S-line Avant. Purchased it last November with 22k miles on it, and I have 34k on it now. I am based in ROI and purchased it from a main AUDI Dealer.

2 months ago the EML light came on. Contacted the dealer and they said they could take a look at it 6 days later.....pretty poor considering I paid the top dollar for the car.
Anyway Audi assist came and said there was a EGR fault, threw it up on a truck, and dumped it outside the dealer's front door. Dealer replaced EGR sensor and all was well....no more lights.
Over the past 3 weeks however I have noticed that the engine doesn't seem to be as smooth as it was, and there are vibrations through the steering, and I think that the whole car is vibrating somewhat. Hard to say if the engine if down on power, but its just not running near as smooth as it used to.

At idle, there is a noticeable ticking sound coming from the engine...something that I didn't notice before, and very apparent when you open the bonnet.

My trust in the dealer is a bit dented, due to previous visits, where they twice let the car out with out tightening the wheel nuts correctly.

I booked the car in for next Thursday, and have discussed the problem with them, they don't seem too concerned, but will run a diagnostic. I also asked them to service the car, just to be on the safe side even though its not due for 7k miles. I did get a mates mechanic friend to run a diagnostic on it a few weeks ago and it came up with no faults. He drove/ rallied the car and thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with it, but we were all a bit hungover at the time so maybe we weren't as sharp as we should have been.

I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts as to what might be the issue. As I said to the dealer, I have driven this car for the past 8 months and I can definitely notice a difference, but I suspect they will try and fob me off (considering the car is under warranty).

Many thanks

I have done 40k miles in my bitdi over 4 years and it has always been a bit "ticky" at idle and low revs when listened to on the outside. More ticky than other diesels i have owned.
If the whole car is vibrating though the must be something wrong?
best of luck.

Thanks Robbyg, had to take it in a long drive today, 380 miles, herself drove last 120 miles and could also notice the vibration through steering and accelator pedal. I could also feel it up through passenger footwell. Don't think it's a tyre balancing issue, feels deeper. Will update the post when garage takes a look on Thurs. Good to hear the bitdi are a bit ticky at idle. Suspect it could be connected to the recent EGR issue.

As long as its in warranty, I would keep on taking it back to the same dealer, have they taken it for a road test with you yet?, it would be more than annoying for them to identify the issue once the warranty has expired.

Bringing it in on Thursday, bought an extended Audi Warranty till Nov 2018, so hopefully ok

Should be due a fuel filter, (it was never changed ) so will make sure that's done, also with 35k miles will it need Haldex oil change ?

I might be wrong, but didn't think the BiTdi had a haldex system, so no oil change required.

indeed, transverse engines have a haldex (golf, a3, tt etc ) real (longditudinal) cars have a torsen diff in the gearbox

Thanks, presume Torsen diff needs a change of oil at some stage?

It is physically possible to change it, but Audi says it isn't required. Oil will last the lifetime of the car.

Got the car back today. Got them to carry out an oil service, air filter, fuel filter, brake fluid. Changed the wipers aswell. They maintain they could feel any noticeable vibration. They gave me a 16 reg A6 190 s-Tronic quattro and to be honest there's just as much vibration in that, so maybe I'm being over particular. They said that there is a recent Audi Campaign to change the turbo Actuator, only out since July 1st. I'm not sure which turbo, but they have ordered the kit from Germany and will give me a shout next week when it's in. They maintain that one of the side effects is vibration, so we will see. I'm going to bring it down to local tyre place and get them to balance the wheels just in case it's that.
