Hi. I bought an Audi A6 s line 2012 with 93k on the clock just three weeks ago. Much to my horror, yesterday I got a 'check coolant' error message and the coolant was all gone and there was a steady leak underneath. I showed it to a local mechanic who said 100% the water pump has gone. It came with a three month warranty from the car dealer who has offered to change the water pump and also quote me on the cambelt at the same time. The question is should I trust a car dealers workshop to do this or should I get it installed at an Audi main dealer? Any advice appreciated.

It wouldn't hurt to get a quotation from both and go with the cheapest. Vehicle is out of manufacturers warranty anyhow, so no need to get it done through a main dealer. Water pump's aren't difficult to fit. You could even do it yourself if you know your way around a spanner.......

The selling dealer will replace your water pump for free and the Audi dealer will charge you (unless the car is still in warranty). On that basis, there is no decision to make, I would have thought. The good news is that you bought it from a dealer who didn't immediately try to wiggle out of his legal responsibility; on that basis alone, I would probably also trust him to change the belt.

I took your advice and the dealer has done the work - water pump and cam belt. On my way to collect now, cheers

Update
Audi took the car today for a gearbox oil change. They also do a health check and this brought up a squealing noise from around the aux (serpentine) belt or the timing belt. The noise is only noticeable with the hood up.

As you can imagine the price he quoted for stripping the belts and pulleys out to identify the cause of the squealing was over £700 just labour for4 hours labour. So any one had this issue before and how concerned should I be? Cheers.

That car is still firmly under warranty with the supplying dealer; they are legally obliged to warrant the car for six months. If Audi thinks the noise indicates a problem that justifies investigation, I suggest you start by talking to the dealer who sold it to you. You are covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The supplying dealer must always be given the opportunity to rectify the fault (if you want them to take responsibility). If you let Audi do the strip-down and investigation, I suspect you will undermine your position with the supplying dealer.

Yes, makes sense, I guess I am just concerned that the squealing will be the third issues I am taking back to the showroom in a month ( air con service and water pump replacement being the first two)

Equally, I am unsure if Audi mechanics would exaggerate a problem like this hoping to get the work🙄
