Audi Connect retrofit

Hi,

I will picking up a 2013 A6 2.0 tdi in the next few weeks. Really nice car in Daytona Grey. The car has Tech Pack which has the touchpad, large nav screen and colour DIS but does not have the sim slot in the Dash unit.

having read this thread it seems this car was manufactured before it was standard with Tech pack unfortunately.

I doubt it's possible. You need an Audi connect account which is based on your vin number. If it's not built with the connect then it won't have the features

I fear you may be right A6S, I've done a lot more digging and no-one appears to have done it. I think its worth an email to Audi to see if/how much they would charge.

I think the mini router might be the only option if Audi come back with nothing.

I retrofitted MMI 3GP with SIM on my C6, I get google maps, google searches and some online services, like weather, parking spaces etc. What I don't get is online TMC, and send to car.

Audi don't allow/support retrofitted MMI setup's so some services will never work.

I have it in the A4 and if I was choosing my own spec on the car I bought I wouldn't of bothered ticking the box for it.

In the same boat here, Ad, with a 2013 Avant minus sim slot but with the weird temporary tech pack that had parking. I've emailed Kufatec and was full refit around £2.5k - the Hazzydayz option looks interesting but really want that online traffic. Have also emailed Audi about it and not had a reply yet. Oh well, roll on next motor with Android auto and get waze running one day!

Depends where you live the live traffic can be hit or miss so it might be an expensive exercise that's of little to no benefit.
There's been times I've been sitting in traffic on a motorway and the Audi mmi says it's clear

The colours of traffic speed from Google Maps are way more accurate than TMS. The Google map colours are based on tracking from the phones of people with Google accounts.

Below is probably not what you you are looking for , it won't provide Audi Connect , but will show Google maps and Online Traffic data via your phone and it's cheap way of displaying Live Traffic on google maps and WAZE if you so desire.

You will require

AUDI AMI cable with RCA connection
HDMI to RCA converter
HDMI lead for your phone eg (Apple / Samsung )

when connected select "MEDIA " on the MMI screen , choose "External ..." And your phone will be mirrored on the MMI screen .

Enable video in motion via VCDS otherwise when you start driving you will loose the mirrored phone image.

You will be able to control the phone via SIRI , - just don't push the armrest completely down , make sure there is a gap otherwise the phone won't hear you say " Hey Siri" etc.

Yes, if you included the Tech Pack in your order and connect to the Internet either via using a SIM or with your phone providing it allows a data connection (excludes all iPhones and quite a large number of Android devices although for some Android phones it is possible via an app)

Fitted a 5F module with the inbuilt sim slot..

I inserted data sim and I can use Audi connect but not google earth. When I try changing map from standard but google earth is greyed out.

Am I missing something?

Just some thoughts:

There are two options exists in the MMI Telephone menu -> data connection ->
-> Enable traffic data: "select it, YES"
-> Data connection: "Without request"

Also please note, it takes time until Google Earth wakes up - maybe a MMI reset will help you.

Yes. As I mentioned earlier I can use Audi connect and Wi-Fi hotspot but not google earth.

Your MMI version seems very old for me, as there is no "Google" text on the bottom right of the screen, also there is no Traffic data option in your menu. Anyway, Google Earth should work.

Try to select Google Earth, even it's grey. What happens if you go back to the maps? Is the Google text appears on the right bottom of the screen, or can you see the Google Earth logo? Is there any message on the screen?

Do you have the Green menu enabled? There is a selection in there to "Activate GEMMI" and "Start GEMMI", this starts/stops te Google Earth system.

MMI SW 6.22.4?

There were a lots of problem with the installation of this version, mostly with the greyed out Google Earth. This issue was discussed in several threads:

The most relevant part is this:

Maybe the installation of K0900 was incomplete or unsuccessful, or some additional updates are missing.

I think, in the newer versions of MMI, the "googleearth" submenu can be accessed from the NAV menu.

Try to select "ACTIVATE GEMMI" or "START GEMMI", and if these will not help you, then try to reinstall the MMI+MAPS database.

Seems like GEMMI can only be installed when upgrading MMI software. Not when updating maps

Hey did you get this working? I have similar issue with my retrofit in my a7, i used installed a TPLINK router setup to get it working, online services started working but like you i get GEMMI not installed, no Google logo on the bottom right of screen. Google earth option is greyed out. Im on k0900 with latest maps 6.22.4

You need to reinstall the software and make sure gemmi is selected as Y
