We have a vw polo S reg diesel that started fine all day yesterday and then just stopped starting. It cranks over but will not keep running. It is a well maintained and my husband does most of the work. But this has flummoxed him. He thinks it is a relay but is not sure, any help? :aargh4:

does it fir and run for about a second, then just stop, and does the same every time, and starts as normal like it always has, just stops after a second ?

That is exactly what it is doing. What now?

sounds like an immobiliser fault. has the little chip fallen out the key. do you have a spare key you could try.

I have tried both keys, does the same with both.

probably a fault either with the aerial around the ignition barrel or the immobiliser in the ecu. first thing is to get a code read and go from there. if you look in the vcds section you will find a map of local members. you need 10 posts to pm someone to see if they can pop over and scan the car for you. alternatively call aa or rac. it may possibly work if its re programmed but chances are there is a fault with part of it.
