I have a 2004 A4 B6 Estate. Today I went to the breakers yard and removed the stalk controls from a car which has cruise and fuel computer fitted. I am not sure if I needed the steering ECU but was going to get it just in case....but I have no idea where it is fitted or what it looks like .... advice needed please.

Also how do the individual control lever stalks remove from the column cluster please.

Finally is there a member in the Lincoln area that could enable / code these functions for me?

Thanks, Paul

Hello.

My B6 has cruise (factory) and it's great to use - definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

The steering wheel control module should be removable along with the stalks as one assembly. the module looks like this part

Audi A4 8E B6 Cruise Control Unit FIS GRA 2001-2005 Genuine NEW | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271349456671?clk_rvr_id=1034566067927&rmvSB=true)

It is absolutely necessary to fit the correct module. I believe you will need parts from an avant too as the saloon is different. Also, don't forget swapping the steering column trim - colour match will be important. I don't think you'd need to dismantle the individual stalks - just fit the whole unit as a replacement with other stalks but up to you. Check google images for detail on how to dismantle if you want to.

Check out this link below for some more info. note that there is a minor wiring change to complete

Cruise Control Retrofitting (8E) - Ross-Tech Wiki (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Cruise_Control_Retrofitting_(8E)#Steering_Column_C ontrol_Module)

As for coding, I'd consider using a dealer to set it up if you don't trust someone's skills with VAG com (I wouldn't!) - I don't think they'd charge too heavily if you were polite but depends entirely on the individual dealer, some are more helpful than others for sure. The wiring change mentioned above is simply to avoid a warning light appearing for washer fluid I think.

Good luck.

Many thanks for your help and reply....I am surprised it was the only one!

Anyway I today got the parts sorted out and have spoken to the local Audi Service Manager who will code it all in for me and provided me with some further information and advice.

Best Wishes, Paul

Hello Paul.

Yes, it's a bit slow around here it seems - perhaps in this case it's because it's a subject that comes up fairly regularly, I don't know. I'm new here as well.

Anyway, good job getting the right bits and I'm sure spending a bit at Audi will work out well in the long run, simpler for you and peace of mind regarding the dreaded computer systems. Sounds like it's one of the 'good' dealerships where you are.

Cheers, all the best

Tim
