Rant first:
Why can't I remove the key when I leave the car in neutral? Having an automatic, I'm forced to have to leave it in park, I understand this is a safer option (in case the handbrake fails), but this should be my choice. If I had a manual would I be forced to leave it in gear?!? I don't believe thats the case.

Worst of it is that because I'll push the little plunger to put it back into neutral or press the button in the key to release it, I can't lock the car on the button?!? ***?!? I have to put the key in the door to lock it..

Rant over..

Can the alarm be tricked into thinking it's a manual using the vcds and therefore allowing me to arm the car in neutral?

Not sure why, does it make that big a difference? Mine is the same and I know some of the earlier Saabs you had to put into reverse before the ignition key would come out.

I'd say no to coding it as a manual!

Thank you for replying, I've always left my automatics in neutral and only use park if the handbrake cable had broken [my Cavalier] or if I feel I need the extra security from leaving in park.

My Omega was easy to change, cut the wire to the ignition lockout.

When I stop the Audi, I'm constantly trying to remove the key, realising I'm still in neutral and always have a FFS moment, lol.

Think my next try will be to modify the wire from the automatic park switch to the key switch.

Carl,
