Hi all,

Firstly, just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributes on this forum! I have managed to learn / fix so many niggly issues on my car thanks to all the comments here! The reason for my post is, I have a really frustrating oil leak, and I am worried about taking it to the garage to get checked without having a rough idea of what the issue is (I don't trust any of my locals!).

I seem to have an oil leak around where the oil neck is (The neck itself was loose when I bought the car, so I have removed it for now, with the cap sitting directly onto the cover, but this didn't stop the leak) and you can see that a lot of oil seems to collect near the left coil packs?? But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how it is getting there?? Also, my car seems to burn / lose A LOT of oil every time I do a motorway journey. Example, I drive to my in-laws around once every 6 weeks (From London to Leicester) and without fail, I know that by the time I reach Leicester (around 100 miles) my oil light will come on...and it is always low when I check it, so its not a sensor issue.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks,

Guv

welcome to the forum. that looks like its probably the rocker cover gasket leaking. remove it, fit a new gasket and i find its best to use a little tiny smear of rtv silicone to stop it leaking again. there may be 4 seperate gaskets around the coil packs as well, or they are part of the main gasket.

Thank you! That seems to make a lot of sense....Is this a simple enough job? I found a few 'How to's' but they dont seem to cover my engine, and i'm always a bit weary ;/ I gave a local garage a call to ask for a quote for the job and they said £80? Do you think thats reasonable?
