HI so I have had a few tdi golfs but the one I am currently driving a pd130 has always had some turbo problems. I am determined to finally source the root of the problem and I would love some help or direction.

First of all I have some form of boost leak. When I accelerate I can hear the noise of air sucking/blowing and when I let off the accelerator its like I have a blow off valve. Its not a woosh but just the noise of air pressure venting. I have replaced all the clamps on each connection of the plumbing. The leak does not seem to be on the air intake side of the system. I do have an increasing hole or holes on the flexi pipe of my exhaust down pipe. I live by the sea and while its rusted and covered in carbon I haven't had it replaced but have accepted that this is the cause of my air flow leak.

The car was sitting up for a few months but since I started driving it again it has been going into limp mode. If I let it get into high revs with high boost pressure the car throws an error code and then it will go into limp mode until I restart. I plugged the car in and the error code is 'Insignificant boost pressure'. I assume I have a burst vacuum tube or faulty valve. Im no way sure but I assume when the car goes into high boost the turbo system tries to adjust something and when it does not happen it throws the error code putting me into limp mode. I don't have a vacuum tube tester but I'm going to get one tomorrow.

I also have an increasing oil leak around my engine. Its not enough to drip to the floor but it is oozing from what looks like the exhaust manifold. My father changed my timing belt while I was not around but i'm not sure if the oozing oil was as serious before he replaced the belt.

Any help or direction on how I may troubleshoot or service my entire turbo system and engine would be great thanks a lot.

Get it scanned with VCDS then post fault codes on here. Most common problem on these pd engines is the turbo is full of carbon and and gong into limp mode.

Hi thanks very much for your reply sorry I'm only getting back to you now. Only today got a chance to properly look at this again. I done some research and my vnt seems to be completely seized. I'm not sure if it's the actuator or if it's blocked with carbon but it's not moving when the car starts or when I physically pull on it. The part connected to the turbo moves a few millimeters but the actuator rod doesn't move at all. I'm not sure if I should try to clean with mr mussle or remove the clip connecting the actuator then test the actuator. I've watched loads of videos on YouTube of bad and good actuator movement but mine doesn't seem to be moving at all. I Suppose cleaning it would prob be the best place to start.

You could try the mr muscle fix see how long it lasts but in the end it will need a new recon turbo fitted

Is cleaning it just a bandaid and it's actually a problem with the vnt? I thought it just got blocked with carbon so needed to be cleaned.

Have a look at this thread shows carbon build up in turbo

Like I said try the mr muscle fix its not that hard to do and very cheap see if it cures it

Yeah I came across something similar last night. Think I know what's going on now. Thanks again
