Hi folks I recently purchased this car for my partner with 140,000 klms on the clock. Car is mint, inside and out. Just had the car fully serviced by my mechanic. It started to misfire a few weeks after purchase so I had it fully serviced with new coil pack, new NGK spark plugs and new Mann oil and air filters and 5W30 Castrol oil. Car is driving fine, no more misfires but she is burning a lot of oil. Had to put a litre in last week and that was only 2 weeks after a full service. Been checking the dip stick every few days and the Oil level is dropping down the crosshatch markings on the dip stick. When revved you can see and smell the smoke from the exhaust. It's not smoking all the time. Not a puff on start up but when warmed up and driven/revved you can see it. I have read many threads about replacing the PCV system first before anything else and I know it could possibly be the Stem Seals or Piston Rings but upon a visit to Audi dealership to buy a new PCV valve the guy at the parts desk said he couldn't find a PCV valve on the system for it and tried to sell me a new breather pipe for €77. I decided to hold off on buying this and do some more digging first. Would adding a bottle of Lucas oil stabiliser buy me time until the problem is sorted out and help with oil consumption and smoke? I'm hoping it's a PCV issue but I really need to know where the PCV is and what exactly needs to be replaced? Have tried eBay, and local parts store told me to go direct to Audi but they tried to sell me a pathetic looking hose for €77 and said they are prone to blocking up. Any advice greatly appreciated as herself is losing all confidence in the car at this stage. Thanks folks.

Yes, you want the breather line 06B 103 209 N. If your car is the pre facelift model, the breather line used on this, 06B 103 217 AB, did cause problems on the ALZ engine and now you should fit the N revision part number. If this does not help, it will need honing and new rings.

Many thanks for your response Crasher I'll buy the part today and have it fitted, hopefully this will do the trick as the car does drive perfectly and looks great. Would this hose/pipe blocking cause such oil consumption?

Not that I would expect but it could contribute.

Thanks Crasher. I'm amazed this engine doesn't have a PCV valve as such...just this breather hose....
It's worth trying anyway to see if it works and hopefully it will. I'll make sure and post back with result anyway as it may be helpful to other forum readers.

So I bought the part you suggested Crasher and have discovered that the old breather hose is actually detached/broken from the housing it enters under the intake manifold and can't get to it myself so I'm going to have my mechanic sort it. It was just dangling free and couldn't be seen where it was tucked away! Hopefully this repair will sort the Oil burning issue...fingers crossed!
