Hi guys just joined and hoping to have some light shed. I have an issue with my 2001 1.9 TDI. When I lift off the accelerator at slow speeds in 1st/2nd I get a knock and feeling that the engine has moved havin scanned the car I get an engine mount fault. I went to order parts and my local VAG dealer wants nearly 300 quid for both mounts. I believe they are hydro mechanical and have electrical connectors on them, now I went to a online parts dealer and put my reg in and the mounts supplied are febi bilstein and half the price but have arrived and don't have electrical plug sockets on. Are they a direct replacement ? Can they be used or am I stuck buying from a dealer ? I tried to ask my local Audi garage and they told me they can only recommend genuine parts and don't have any ideas about any non VAG parts. Would love some advice thanks in advance 😃

As far as I know, the two mounts are physically identical. But one has a sensor and the other doesn't.
I've seen people fit non-sensor versions of the mounts off the B5 S4 I think? Which don't have sensors, so they need a resistor or something wiring in to stop it throwing up a fault code.
If they fit ok then put them on,the engine mount alarm is very common and can be left on no problem, are you sure that is the cause of the knock, they would have to be really shot to cause a knock, there are loads of owners riding round with that alarm blissfully unaware.

Are you sure yours are electrical? Mine did not have a connector, i swapped my right one for a febi one, it was pretty similar to OE.

The passenger one defo has a connector on it. Can't see the drivers side. I am gonna change the mounts as the first port of call on the knocking issue, I guess there are a few things that could cause the knock but having the mount fault code made me think it could be that. I guess other things to look at are suspension components, sub frame bolts, steering rack bolts ........ The list could go on 😩
