View Full Version : Where's my dashboard lights?

So, I've had my B7 Avant for about a month now and I've realised that some of the dash lights don't work.
Would I be right in thinking that when I turn on my headlights a little light symbol should come on on the dash to show that the lights are on?
I've looked closely and I can see a main beam light symbol and a dipped light symbol on the dash but when I turn the lights on they don't light up. Even the fog light on the dash doesn't light up.
Here's a pic off the web of someone else's dash with the light symbol illuminated...

The symbol lit on the photo is just saying lights on, be they side lights or head lights.
You will see the blue item when on full beam.
The fog light tell tale for both the front fogs and rear fogs will only light up on the switch surround
Nothing else on dash, just the lights on symbol as per your photo

Sorry , just to clarify re fogs, the switch dial and the bit that you pull will show around the rim when fronts and rears are selected

Just to clarify. That pic is NOT my car. As I said its just a pic I found off the web of a b7 dash to help illustrate my point.
That green light never comes on, maybe I should have made that clearer in my opening post.
The point is that with my side lights, or main lights on that green light symbol NEVER appears.
I was simply trying to find out whether there should be a light on the dash when the lights are turned on. Or if there was a light on the dash when the fogs were turned on.
On my RX8 there was no light on the dash to indicate side or main lights, but when either were turned on the whole dash lit up and looked obviously different to when the lights were off.
The only light symbol that appeared on the dash was the light that came on when the fog lights were activated.
Just wondered if there was a fault with my A4 dash light indicator and how to fix it.

I see, yes you should see the same symbol as per the b7 photo and your instrument panels should light up as soon as you select side lights, then onto headlights, no change, full beam blue and fogs only light up on the switch.
I would suggest a bulb out in your binnacle/cluster. Good luck
Stuart
With ignition on and engine off check whether you get abs light on for a few seconds, some unscrupulous people disable it to disguise a fault.

No Sidelight/Headlight on indication on my car. Just Full Beam. Think this is the norm. I have read the lights on indication can be coded though
