A6 C5 V8 - can I used C5 S6 shocks and springs?

Hi all,

This may seem like a silly question but I'm new to the car (and Audi's) and I'm hoping someone will either already have done this/know why not to....

It's not easy finding used A6 C5 4.2 suspension parts in the UK and I don't really want to fork out dealer prices/use coil overs/aftermarket parts as I don't know what else needs doing yet (car can't be driven due to the collapsed strut and has been off the road for years).

It is much easier to get hold of C5 S6 4.2 parts online but I'm not certain if they will be exactly the same/they are interchangeable. Obviously the 4.2 engine and front end of the S6 will be the same weight approx. so....

Can I swap out both the front springs and shocks on my 1999 A6 Avant and replace with slightly later S6 front springs and shocks? Are they going to swap straight in and just go?

Hi, yes they fit but be aware of that the springs are coded with paint markings, There are a lot different springs for these cars depending of the cars weight and type of suspension, IBA, IBE A.S.O

Thanks guys. I managed to get the struts out this weekend and the shocks are fine. As are the top mounts/upper control arms etc. Pinch bolt was a right **** on one side and took a LOT of heat before it gave in. Otherside just slid out.....

The paint marks on my springs are green/yellow (one of each). I've not had any luck with most suppliers but ideally want to go OEM for now. Does anyone know any speciailists who might be able to source these? Audi wanted £250 for the pair but didn't know if they could actually get them....

Any help is much appreciated - car's been off the road for years before I took it on and I can't wait to drive it!!
