Vw Golk mk5 brake lights staying on

Vw golk mk5 brake lights work normally on/off with ignition off, but with ignition on or engine running the brake lights are on constantly, iv already replaced brake light switch and no difference

Did you fit a new and more importantly genuine brake switch?

If you unplug the switch do the brake lights go out or do they stay on?
