View Full Version : Tyre swap - can I get away with it. BMW to Audi?

Hi Guys, I've just dropped my 14 plate 335D xdrive in to the tyre garage for the winter tyres taking off and summers putting back on. I'm gonna get rid of the BMW soon but I'm thinking of keeping the winter tyres for my A6 BiTdi s-line. So the big question is will the tyres go on the A6 because the BMW has different profile widths front to back etc. Treads are all good at 5 or 6 mm.
BMW Rear 255, 45, R18
BMW Front 225, 45, R18
Audi 245,45, R18 (front and back)
Will I get away with either of the BMW tyres on the Audi?
Cheers!
I would say no.
Why don't you sell the tyres on fleebay and get a set for the correct size for the a6.
The 245 45 18 are the size for summer tyre. Audi recommends narrower tyres and wheels for the winters probably to accommodate snow chains in some countries.

Cheers for the shared thoughts.
I had my fingers crossed and thought that I would have got away with the 255's, minimal difference there??
I agree with the thought of the narrower tyres, but it all becomes added expense. I think anything less than a 225 and the car could start to look a bit of a dog for the 5 or 6 months of the year that I generally run winter tyres. Its probably hand in pocket time and mid summer buy some 245 winters.
I think my winter tyres were 225 50 18s and these were on narrower wheels
I think I'm right in saying the BiTDi A6 is a Quattro. Quattro is sensitive to rolling radius changes.
If it were my money, I'd be fitting manufacturer specified sizes only.
I think the quattros are sensitive to different rolling radius between front and back. As long as there is little differences between front and back you shouldn't damage things like diffs driveshafts, gearbox etc

Although your existing tyres could be used subject to insurance approval etc., it's the fact that you would need to match the other axle pair and the tread depth on a new set would make them mismatched because of current wear.
