Things to consider when replacing a 6 speed DSG gearbox

So a loose driveshaft has shattered my DSG casing (car is 2007 Passat Estate 2.0 TDI 140PD).

I need a new (old) gearbox.

I need to keep costs to minimum (VW quotes £4160 for a exchanged box) so I am sourcing my box from an online car breakers company ~£950.

Other than labour is anything else (parts wise) required?

Is the doner car exact same model and year with same engine code? The gearbox code for my car is JPJ which is used on a few different models and years. I assume that I only have to make sure that the gearbox codes match or am I wrong?
Have you seen it? No. I am searching online and via Ebay. I am looking at ones that come with warranty.

Who's doing the swap out? My local VW/AUDI independent/specialist. They have quoted 5 hours labour to do a swap.

Is VCDS available to code it? I have my own but I am sure that my local specialist has one.

If it is the same box it will go on with no issues but the mechatronics covers do tend to corrode and become porous on occasion. Whilst the box is between cars it would be a good time to either replace the cover or if the existing one is a bit shabby to clean it, rub it down and treat it with a rust care product / repaint it.

Have the new gearbox reset with VCDS or similar so that it "learns" your driving style.

As a VAG indie if they're happy with another box with the same code irrespective of what it came from then fine.
If it had been still on the doner car then perhaps with your laptop, doner could still have its IGN switched on to check if any gearbox fault codes stored in its control module. DSG gearboxes are subject to Mechatronics faults.

Five hours doesn't sound unreasonable.

Re: Mechatronics: could I simply swap my current unit onto the new donor box? Or am I missing something (like it be locked to a particular gearbox unique ID or something)?

Mechatronics changeout means draining ATF, removing unit cover, removing dog bone mount to give room to move box a tad...
Ask scrappy what the box came out of -- and tell your mechanic beforehand so is forwarned if from a different vehicle range. Dunno what vehicles in the VAG range JPJ DSG's have gone into... would've stayed with the same part number if it were me

What PX arrangement have you made regarding your old box? Mebe worth removing Mechatronics unit anyways as a backup?

All the donor JPJ's I have looked at so far have been from the same model/year as mine. The JPJ did not go into many other variants/models. It is matched to the BKP 2.0 TDI mainly as far as I can tell.

Not discussed PX yet. Thanks for the advice though. I was wondering what other goodies could be salvaged.

Sump cover and plugs, bolts, and the level tube I guess. Tiptronic here.

Saw 5th Gear last night. Tiff reviewed the Lamborghini Huracán saying they've got rid of their single clutch E gearbox in favour of the "same dual clutch box that's in the Audi". I hope that doesn't mean its a DSG by Aisin Warner. Got used to buying German and getting Chinese but on a Lambo?
