With spring in the air it was time to take the winter wheels and tyres off. Three wheels completed and everything going well but then a problem. The locking wheel nut on the final wheel is stuck solid and the security socket appears to be just slipping off the teeth. I tried the usual tricks such as giving it a sharp blow with the hammer but to no avail. I'm now driving around with 3 summers and 1 winter on. The local tyre depots are all closed so I can't visit any of them.

Any suggestions as to how to get this off?

Does your locking tool look worn? If it does you could take it to an Audi dealer. They will have a master set. They should be able to remove that wheel nut for you.

As long as it's the key that's bust and not the bolt/nut head you have a chance in ordering a new key from Audi. If both are bust it's gonna need drilled out which can be costly.
Normally the keys get damaged from air guns at tyre places and garages and people jumping on the wheel brace to tighten the nut instead of turning with just arms.

Try using a 18mm socket and hammer it on to the the lock nut. A 6 sided socket is best - then use long lever on the secured socket.Apply a strong force to the lever. This should hopefully work. good luck.

What about using one of those gator grip sockets ?

Thanks all. I took the car to my local fitters and they managed to get it off in about 2 minutes. One had the security socket on a long bar while the other was hitting it with a lump hammer. I now have 4 summer wheel/tyres back on.
