Hi all, im after some advice if possible -

- My 52 plate A4 avant's vacuum pump is wearing out. I have been told that there are one of four different variants for that engine/year/spec of car?

Im not so sure if the guy who said this, may be trying to inflate the price. He thinks the time to replace is a lengthy task as well, but from experience with other makes of car - it is only a couple of hours work?

Many thanks in advance for your help

hmmm, an hour at the most, but is it wearing out or is there a vacuum leak. you get more vac leaks than you do worn out pumps. theres only one though, its called a tandem pump and lives on the back of the cylinder head. what symptoms have lead to this diagnosis. ?

Intermittently the pedal is very hard to push down. Most of the time it works perfectly fine. Do you think my assumption is off?

Ive been looking online and I can only find one part, reckon its worth calling Audi for clarification?

you could call audi. is your plenum chamber flooded, the area where the servo lives ? does the power ever drop off at the same time as the hard pedal ? all you do now is attach a vacuum guage to the vac line and drive. it should pull 20 '' hg all the time. if it does the pumps ok, if not you need a new one, but chances are its the servo or a vac leak.
