I'm on the hunt for a new motor and found what i'm after a b7 1.8t. Been in contact with the seller and only mentioned to me then that the clutch is high, so basicly its on its way out.
But i know the DMF issues after x milage and said price will have to come down in respect of the work needed to replace both.
The seller informs me that its a SMF?
What i'm asking is did any of the b7's come standard with a SMF or was this a later conversion, an shall i stay well away?

Phone Audi with car reg & ask how much for complete clutch change
then take that off the price of the car

Alternatively, have him replace the clutch at his cost, then test drive for your own satisfaction before buying.
Reckon he will not be to keen because I think it will be dual mass and around 5-7 hundred quid depending where it is done

if he has had a smf fitted then i am sure he will still have a receipt for it.. no receipt = no proof, just like the remapped cars with no proof, or the full history but lost the book cars..

Take the clutch inspection plug out, you can tell if it's smf or dmf there.
Dmf= double plate, smf = single plate.
You can tell the difference if you have the knowledge of both flywheels, plus there are plenty of pics on the www of both to compare with.
