Headlight question

Hi all, I just fitted a set of facelift headlights to my pre-facelift 98 b5m, when I switch to high beam the dipped beam go's off, any idea how to fix this? and is this an MOT fail?

i had the same thing with my 80. there was a wire in the switch that needed moving from one place to another and i presume its the same with the b5.
