Hi all,
new here and new to Audis so please forgive any newbie errors.
Recently bought a 2003 A4 cabriolet, 2.4 V6. The headlights are pointing at the ground and the beam
only extends a few feet in front of the car. I tried the adjustment knob on the dash only to find
it came off in my hand and was not connected to anything !

In research on the net I keep finding pictures of headlight units with two white adjuster screws but my lamps do not have these
(see pics attached). There is a black pair of what look like adjuster screws but before I get the pliers on them I could do with knowing
they are what I suspect they are!

All and any advice much appreciated
Best wishes
Monty

That is 1 of the adjusters the other 1 is through a hole looking down near the wing it's about 5 inches down. One adjusts left to right the other up down if I can remember it's one in the hole that's up down but it's been a while

Easiest seen in pic 2, the allen type screw is what you turn which will turn the bolt type item below it.
This turns a worm/auger drive piece which in turn will move the lamp innards.
I found that on mine ,some numpty had been there previously and over adjusted until the worm drive had popped over the part which it was supposed to push/pull, easily rectified, I removed the other lamp to see how it all should be assembled.
I suspect the previous chappy had mal-adjusted because he was not happy with the beam throw pattern, which is something that most of us b6 owners have experienced.
The common opinion, which I share, is that after a few years the inner reflector parts become less effective deep in the guts of the lamp unit.
Only cure brand new, expensive replacements or good tested swappers from donor vehicle.
Do a forum archive search for a chap who strips repairs and rebuilds the lamps innards, he shows in detail where the issue is and repairs/refurbs with video proof showing the improved unit after his work.
If all that is not your issue and I have just bored you rigid for two minutes then refer to line one of this post
Good luck

Stuart

Thanks for this - do you happen to know which adjuster is up/down and which is left/right?
Best wishes

Not from memory but you should be able to quite easily, just easy to slide the lamp off the car

For anyone else who's watching it's the more exposed adjuster that controls up/down movement of the lamp.
