B6 locking in to first gear

Every now and again my passat will lock in to first gear then when I start moving I can change with out a problem but when it does lock in to that gear it's hard to get out I have lifted the clutch and it just moves forward can any help suggest how to sort this problem

Very similar to mine going into garage Friday so may know more.It IS under warranty.Pulling the clutch pedal up to the same height as the brake pedal seems to have worked but something caused it to stick in the first place!!!
