Reverse lamp and parking sensors not switching on

At first I noticed the rear parking sensors wouldn't switch on automatically when reverse gear (manual 'box) was selected. I later realised the reverse lamp isn't switching on also. Are these two problems linked? I'm guessing there will be a switch somewhere near the gear stick but I thought I should ask first. I haven't checked the reverse lamp bulb.

check the fuse and bulb

then check the gearbox to find the switch , check for power going to it, usually just two wires. If it has power, you could try tightening it slightly into the gearbox ................ this might be enough to get it to work ..................... too much and it probally wont get into reverse gear

Bulb and fuses are ok. Looks like I need to remove the air filter box to even see the top of the gearbox.

Can anyone confirm if the switch is under the air filter box or is there an easier way to get to it?
