Cutting out when driving

Hi everyone. my first time on this forum, I have a 2003 audi A6 2.5 tdi quattro, I am looking for help with my car as it drives then cuts out,
it will start again then drives for so long and cuts out again. Leave it for an hour or so and yep it starts again and drives for a while then stops, been told its the fuel pump as the code is 00550, been on google all morning looking for answers.
wondering if it could be the ecu on top of the pump, has any member had the same problems? if so could you please give me any advice

The distributor injection fuel pump can cut out like this but it usually does not re-start. On the quattro the lift pump in the tank has to fill a swirl pot for the injection pump to pull from. You need to establish if the in tank pump is running.

Hi, agree with Crasher, a faulty pump ecd would make it a non runner but I have never seen it start again and again after it's dead. In order to check the tank pump, fill the tank to the brim. If nothing change, the tank pump is not to blaim.
If there was a problem from the pump in tank you should also have a code regarding the G210 sensor, is 00550 the only code ?

How long does it run for and is it the same time each time it starts up. Regards Peter
