29777Your Extended OBD port will now reside in the drivers side Fuse box area which looks something like this.

and how long do you think it will take someone to unscrew the panel below the steering wheel and rip that out? not very long, especially if the alarm doesn't activate.

honestly if my car was stolen, i wouldn't want it back.

people who go out to steal a specific car have intelligence on the specific brand and model of car and they'll know they may come across things like obd port extensions. they also trawl owners forums (like this one potentially) for targets who may be near them.

Go to the fuse box , pull a few selected fuses that prevent car from starting (havnt looked which specific fuses u would pull) ...if it doesn't start they can't drive it,

pita to pull fuses out every time you park it up.....

having said that gap insurance all the way, price paid for vehicle returned

Few points:

1. Anything that can hinder the bas tards I'm all up for.
2. its £2.38
3. I never ever give in so easily Chris. I will always seek to counteract those who wish to steel from me. Your point is a bit mute its like saying don't install a burglar alarm in your house as its pointless - that kind of dissent make sense.
4. Lastly explain how you can gain access to the interior of an A6 allowing you enough space and time to unscrew the panel where the original OBD resides without the audi security alarm acting ? Because you now what i will find a way of stopping them gaining access to the OBD from there and i have my answer and application ready to do so which i will post once i get the answer from you on how they the firstly disable the factory Security without any access to the OBD port ?

In my old car when i was 17 i had a hidden switch that did the same job just broke the circuit. That would be easy enough to do thus removing the need to physically take out the fuse. Just a hidden switch like this or similar Durite - Switch Rocker Round On/Off Black Cd1 - 0-531-01 (Durite 0-531-01) from Green Spark Plug (http://www.gsparkplug.com/durite-switch-rocker-round-on-off-black-cd1-0-531-01.html?gclid=COPw4uLr08oCFVG6GwodCxsJyg).

Thanks for your positive contribution. :beerchug:

Buy a iPhone 3GS , install the app "find my iPhone" , hide the phone some where in the car , make sure it's constantly charging.

Car gets nicked , log onto your PC/iPad whatever and "find my iPhone"- inform police

unless the thieves find the phone

Nice ! Cheap tracker. A usb charger can be installed with a constant 12v feed cable strapped to the underneath of the front seats, inside the rear quarters, under the bonnet in a water proof bag, in the dash left, or right hand side, in under the panel where the wipers are again waterproofed, perhaps behind the interior light panel and in the headlining especially if you remove the iPhone outer cover so the componentry becomes ultra thin.

Disable vibrate and sound on the phone before install, turn brightness right down and shutdown all other apps outwith the basic necessary 3g Functions thus reducing battery draw which is especially important if you are leaving your car sitting for a few weeks while going away on holiday. Speaking of which you can actually see if your car has been moved while your over in Marbella and can relax that little bit more while sunning yourself.

Iphone 3GS can be had for £25. Usb 12v charger for £3. Sim with free data can be free from talk talk for example if you have their broadband etc etc

Simple shrink wrap, gaffe tape and cable tie the connecting blocks together and then use Denso tape over that all 50mm Prem Tape/ Denso Type Anti Corrosion Tape (http://plumbsparesdirect.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=178&language=en&currency=GBP&gclid=CMqL6vLs08oCFcjnwgod92kBwA) and then cable tie the block its lead to the inside metal framework of the dash and then put 50mm Prem Tape/ Denso Type Anti Corrosion Tape (http://plumbsparesdirect.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=178&language=en&currency=GBP&gclid=CMqL6vLs08oCFcjnwgod92kBwA) on that as well . Done ! And if they somehow manage to undo them, then cable tie the new end of the ext OBD port to buggery as well so that they can't just pull the other end through. I reckon that will slow them down enough maybe by 10 minutes. And when is say cable tie i mean seriously hardy ties not the shitey automative ones

To be fair your not giving the scum much intelligence! if they see the port is missing they will go looking for it just like the picture below they ripped the side cover off & lower trim panel. If your going to do this then I would have cut the OBD2 connector where it comes out the of the hardness, and using a new custom harness run cables direct from the can gateway to a new ODB2 location, that way they will not see a tapped up ODB2 port that is almost as easy to access.

That takes more time for them and all we can aim for is to increase that time and indeed your right there is always a way around any system given knowledge and time. One other thing though that is obvious they were able to plug into the OBD port before taking the side panel off as the doors are deadlocked by the Audi security system. Or was the panel removed after the crime and the picture taken then ?

Can you gives us some more intelligence about this picture and the story behind it please B5. Thanks

You can use VCDS to shorten the time before the alarm goes off.

I think the car pictured above is an A4 BE which was stolen and parked up not far away. Apparently this is something some of these guys do so they can watch it in case it has a tracker. If it is that car, the damage was pretty bad due to the theirs ripping the dashboard getting to the OBD which is going to require a new dashboard. He also lost quite a lot of computer gear.

How do you overcome the audi security system without accessing the OBD ? I don't think its possible. Apart from radio RFID scanners and picking up the remotes unique code and then cloning a new key away from the car with that there is no way to stop Audi's security system. At that point the cloning of the key via the OBD port isn't needed or any requirement to access the OBD by ripping out the underneath of the dash etc etc . They clone the key away from the car and simply walk up open and drive away.
