Hi folks,
I'm trying to remove the carpet trim on the boot hatch of my A4 B5 Avant 2000. I can only find one "plastic" screw (in the middle of the panel) which I have removed along with the number plate lights, but after allot of tugging it would not budge (it may be I'm being too gentle but I don't want to break anything)

I've read other posts (none specifically for A4 B5 platform) and what concerns me is that they mention multiple screws and I'm worried that I can't see the other screws - so I just want to confirm following with the forum

1. How many srews do I need to remove.
2. Any special routine to prize off the panel and any suggested tools

The reason I want to get the panel off is to get to the boot lock mechanism and micro switches as the boot won't open when pressing the handle - works fine with the key and with the remote boot release. But I'll leave that for another post once I get to the suspects.

Thanks in advance
Haggis

Welcome to VWAF :)

Have a look at this thread - How To A4 Avant Tailgate Trim Removal (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/99146-A4-Avant-Tailgate-Trim-Removal)

That should answer all your queries.

Edit, ignore that, I'm an idiot, that's for a B6.

B5 info coming as soon as I find it for you

Edit 2:

http://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a4_mk1/body/general_body_assembly/bonnet_flaps_cab_central_locking/avant_tailgate_8d_xa_200_000/

Have a look at the link above, that should cover everything.

Apologies for the wrong info, brain's working slowly for some reason :)

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the fast response and link - I did some browsing of the manual and found the exact page I was looking for. Indeed there is only 1 screw and about 6-8 fixing (picture attached) which need to be "pulled" off - so some serious tugging required.

Below is the link as it took a bit of time to find as I'm not used to the online document.http://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a4_mk1/body/general_body_assembly_interior_(repair_groups_68_6 9_70_72_74)/trim_noise_insulation/trims_avant/ (http://workshop-manuals.com/audi/a4_mk1/body/general_body_assembly_interior_(repair_groups_68_6 9_70_72_74)/trim_noise_insulation/trims_avant/)

Cheers,
Haggis

Best of luck with it, I couldn't find any photographic how tos on here or in the few other places I looked.

If you have the time and willing, maybe you could take pictures as you go, share the wealth etc.

The rear tailgate interior trim is straight forward. As mentioned, there's a cross head screw hidden at the interior handle. Remove. With the tailgate open and raised, use a plastic tool to lever the trim along the outside lower edge. It uses metal clips that locate on the tailgate. Now lift the trim slightly so you can see behind. If you haul it, there's a danger you'll crack the plastic interior trim further up. You can use a long handled screw-driver to prize the trim away. Patience is the key. Refitting, just involves lining up the top section (where the interior plastic is) first. Use the palm of your hand to hit the trim to lock it back into place.
