BiTdi engine running temperatures for A6/A7

This is a question for all those with any experience of the BiTdi engine, I haven't had mine for very long, had the multitronic prior to that, but what I have noticed for mine is that it seems to run pretty pretty hot in comparison to the 204ps engine, not sure about the 245 or 272. I have enabled the lap timer in VCDS a mod affords a digital temp readout and Ive been using this to monitor the engine temps. The temperatures I have been seeing are generally around the 105-107 degrees celsius mark, (I'm still running the engine so generally have been keeping the revs below 2500rpm, got 1500miles on it now) 100 in my opinion is high, as I recall the 204ps hovered around the 75 degree mark, now I've asked my dealership about this and the individual I spoke to gave a unclear non-committal response and only suggested that I book it in and maybe they can have a look at it. I will do that soon as I get the opportunity to, but its a little unsettling to see those temps consistently, especially if one considers the current cooler winter ambient temperatures, what more when summer rolls round and we get the hoped for 30 degree summer temps.
So I thought I'd ask the forum braintrust see what other peeps are experiencing and seeing??:confused:

Your cars new and your new to it. Its under warranty and any issue with temperature will be picked up by the cars systems. Just drive

I noticed on my 272 that it creeps up to 100+ just cruising around 60-70mph.
I thought this was high as well as my previous track car I managed to keep oil temps below 100 Celsius most of the time, it was only after about 15 off laps that it creeps above 100 but that was a high revving na engine not turbo
100 degrees is well within the working temps of the oils so I'm less worried.

My non facelift A7 sits happily in the centre of its temp gauge whenever and however I drive it. I have noticed though that when I put the lap timer on (with the temp shown in the HUD) the temp can vary by quite a lot compared to the main gauge readout.

However this appears to be when I am giving it some, or in stop start traffic. On a run i think the moving air keeps it cool so the temp is back in the 90's.

I don't think you have a fault and think the gauges are literally that, a gauge to the temp. If you get warning lights then you have a problem, if not you're good [emoji106]🏻

Lap timer shows oil temps and the main dash shows coolant temp.
Coolant should hover around 90 but oil can get a lot higher.

Mine is bang on at 90 degrees on the coolant gauge but have not enabled the oil temperature gauge, which I would expect to run higher, in the 100 degrees range, from experience with previous cars.

I also thought the Lap Timer display was oil temp, not coolant.

This is a much more important temp to read, as you want the oil warm before using high throttle or revs, simply to be sure the oil is thin enough to be flowing through the bearings as it should. Oil should be 95degC -105degC, so that it burns off any moisture that may have been absorbed into it.

Coolant should be around 85degC-90degC.

To confirm, the lap timer is the oil temperature.
Mine runs between 95degC and 106degC depending on how hard I'm pushing it and also the ambient temperature.
Out of interest, when I was towing our caravan in France last summer it reached 115degC. When we got back I checked the temp range limit of the oil and although I can't remember the exact figures it was still well within acceptable limits.

Just checked and Mobil 1 is good for 260degC !
