Hi All,

I am about to purchase my fourth A6, this time a 63' black edition, I had previously owned a 2012 s-line.
I am sure when I had my 2012 model I had a 1TB hard drive plugged in playing .WAV format music.
Could someone confirm if WAV is an acceptable format, I know the drive needs to be in FAT32 prior to loading.

I have to ask... why on Earth are you using WAV?

I currently use wav in my home system which is a Naim system and the DAC's are designed around wav, I would prefer to get the best sound possible but could convert to mp3 if I have to, but if I can just copy my library across without having to convert than great

Well in your car it isn't going to make much difference in terms of WAV or MP3 (use 320kbps). Conversion doesn't take long nowadays anyway (I remember back in the day when I had a 400Mhz PC it used to take forever). It would also be easier to transfer the music across too.

By the way, what is the set up of the car. I am assuming 2 x SD and built in 10GB HDD?

I don't know the setup yet, but yes 2 sd slots, unsure of any internal capacity as my 2012 didn't have any. its a BOSE system is all I know so far

I have BOSE on mine and it is much better than the standard speakers. I couldn't justify the cost of getting B&O though.

Your best bet is to convert the files to MP3, and put them all on the SD card. When you get the car, you just put the SD in and play directly, or if it has an internal drive then you have the option of copying them onto the jukebox.

The MMI system on a 63 car is the same as that on your 2012 car, any changes only happpened with the facelift which affects cars from late 2014 onwards so what ever worked for you before should work now. Regarding SD card capacity. technically because it has to be formatted as FAT32 you can only go to 32GB, but there are utilities you can download to format larger cards as FAT32. Reports of 64GB cards working are fairly common and I recall seeing some being successful with 128GB cards

yes I think for the VFM, it would be better to get a HDD so I can put my whole library on it at the best quality possible.

Does the new car you're getting have AMI (Audi Music Interface)? If not, you won't have anywhere to plug in an external drive...

That's the AMI port. When I ordered my car in December 2011, it wasn't standard - it came either as part of the WB4 Tech Pack (£1500) or as a UF7 stand-alone option (£260). The Black Edition didn't exist at that point. I hadn't noticed your new car is a BE - AMI is included in the BE spec. :)
