Hello

So noticed this slight oil residue on the bottom of the block and thought maybe the crank seal was leaking. Cleaned it and can now see the oil looks to be coming from the dip stick tube joining to the block. I have checked now for several days and filmed behind the pulley and its not coming from there.

Anyone encountered this at all? As said its a very light oil residue and seems to just trickle across the block. Still not 100% sure its the dip stick tube.

Car is a 61 reg 3.0 tdi v6.

I have a 2011 A8 with the 3.0 TDI. I had an oil leak on the bottom end of the engine. My local dealer stated it was a common fault on these engines and was an issue with the seal between the sump section and the bottom of the block. They had done a few of them. It was billed as a tube of some type of "Audi" Sealant and 2 hrs labour. My car has a CDTA engine code.

The thing is the leak sits ontop of the sump and seems to source from the dipstick tube and then runs across as a very feint line of oil. Again i cant be 100% on tube but from what i can see its that.

The Q7 engine may be quite different as mine doesnt have a dipstick, the oil level is displayed in a menu in the mmi.
The only way forward is to get the engine cleaned and then monitor the suspect location for a few days.
