I've had the car about 3 months (05 2.0tdi) everything else is bang on and really do like it, it's the best car I've had (apart from an 05 Alfa gt) but this bluudy gearbox is driving me nuts. It's changing fine and so far there's no issues with it, it's me..

I was looking for a decent auto diesel est and saw this and thought right a good one, well kept ect (and it is) but the way the cvt works (in my opinion) let's it down. Should I just drive it and TRY and get used to it and if it does go bang then worry about it if/when it happens.

HELP..

You do not say what the problem is but if you drive it with a heavy right foot the box will keep changing up and down and the engine will be revving, just use the miminum of throttle and it will be smooth and quiet also you will save fuel.

I do drive gentle most of the time, it's just in general the way it changes, I don't like it I got the car thinking it was a proper auto as I would call it not cvt. It wasn't till I went to the mechanic I use and told me to Google it...I guess I shouldn't have but it's because I said it seems to "slip" a lot especially on certain hills steep or not.

I've now read and saw plenty about them and how it works but still don't like it and have no confidence in it. I'm a gears and cogs man.
