Hi All,
Picked up my new VW Golf 1.6 tdi match today, am still getting used to all the functions and gadgets on board, but what a great car it is, I absolutely love it.
Anyway I have noticed a small fault with it and I am after some advice or help if possible?
Basically when i apply the hand brake, the rear fog light and red (press the brake) lights appear dimly on the dashboard??? I have checked and the fog light isn't on at the rear of the car.
Also I have noticed that when I indicate right, the same red (press the brake) light and cruise control light appears on the dash and flashes the same as the indicator dash light.
Has anyone experienced this before or know what the problem may be?
Thanks for replies.

My friend had an issue like this in a 2013 Caddy, it seems it wasn't fitted with a AGM battery (for stop start) and caused the dimly lit icons when the van was switched on. Fitted a new AGM battery, coded and the issue went away by the next day.

I'm not a mechanic so I can't say for sure but it did solve the issue on the Caddy.
How old is the car?

If you add your car spec to your signature as regular users do then we know your car details on every post you make?

Will do, I have been told today by a mate that it could be an incorrect bulb fitted that could be the problem? However I have checked all bulbs and they seem fine? Can anyone add to this?

take out all the rear bulbs and ensure they are the correct wattage.
Then when putting them back in, ensure that they are correctly seated. Some of the bulbs will be off centred , the small lugs will not be in a straight line, if put in the wrong way, this can cause problems. ie the side lights can be really bright and the brake light can be dim ...................... bulb in the wrong way
Also look at the fog lights. Though the rear lens can appear identical, this is for cosmetic reasons. If you put a fog lamp bulb in what is supposed to be a blank socket, it screws up the electrics. The blank socket looks as if a bulb should be in it.
Look at owners manual and find out if nearside or offside for fog lamp bulb.
Some of the smaller bulbs can be 5 watts or 10 watts, They look very similar.
Then report back

Hi all, just to update you. The problem is all sorted now and it turned out that all bulbs were correct and there was no wiring fault with the car, it was a faulty dash cluster. So the car needed a whole new dash cluster and had to be all recoded etc. Luckily it was covered under the 2 year warranty I got when I purchased the car.
Thanks for all your replies.
