Hello all.

I know this topic was around for a while, but could find any recent info, hence new post.

My little rocket has clocked almost 120k and it is due to cambelt/water pump change, I suppose.

This has triggered all the obvious questions, which I have to ask, sorry)

1) Where could I get best service/price offer at the moment guys?
I live next to Wimbledon in London, but could travel up and down, 200- 300 max distance if needed.
Don't care if it would be major dealer or well renown VAG approved garage, really.

Please share any ideas.

2) Aprt of obvious waterpump/belt change, what else should be change on the engine? I have heard that some pulleys are better to be changed, as a part of the same process as well.

Could you please walk me through that a bit more? that will help me to get best value offer and hopefully best future for the car all together.

3) Price. I have rung all the major VAG dealers ( audi, vw, skoda) - cheapest £449 with VW for the pump/belt part and change only. Others wanted £699 for it - no way iam paying this kind of money.

What is OKish price for that job in your experience?

I really appreciate all your replies and input guys.

Please keep them coming)

1. Try Volks Autos in Sutton (http://www.volksautos.co.uk/). I got my cambelt and waterpump changed there for £420 a few years back and they've done other work on the car too. Nice friendly indie garage with good service.

2. If it's a Multitronic, the transmission fluid should be changed. I've had mine done at both an Audi dealer and then again at Volks Autos. It has to be the right oil and changed in a particular way so best to use a Audi specialist for this.

3. £449 all in for a cambelt and water pump change is decent I reckon. Make sure it includes everything though including pulleys and tensioners.

Seems expensive a local indie will do cambelt kit and waterpump on 1.9 PD's for £275.

Yes, it's much cheaper if you can travel a distance. Rates inside London are a bit more though. Have found a few indies who will do for less than £400 but not sure I'd trust them to do it properly.

Thank you all for the replies.

I went to Cardiff, where I used to live and got my all done there. An Indie garage I can trust, charged me £320 for an original parts, labour and tosol change. Pretty much everything needed was includedin the price. Had an overall car check and happy to say - the car in 100% good condition. Can not be happier.
