I had a lovely discussion with Audi Uk about how they had sold me a car with a Traffic Licence for three years only without actually informing me at the point of sale. Eventually after many, many phone calls to my <removed> and Customer Services they begrudginly extended the license for six months. I explained to my <removed> that I believed the data was supplied by Inrix and that a free Android App was available and the service was free albeit woefully inaccurate.

TomTom does and Android App called Go Mobile 1.8 and this is amazingly accurate re traffic.

Personally when my six months is up I won't bother. <removed> them!

When I bought my car, it gave me six months. But when it expired, it just renewed again for six months...not sure why.

After my rather expensive pre Christmas foray into mucking about with the mmi, software updates etc I can report that now having firmware 900 and latest maps, I am a happy chap once again. My licence had expired and I followed the posts I found on this site but to no avail!! I was about to give up all hope until a very helpful lady from Audi customer services told me the magic words. So I rang my dealer and asked to speak to somebody who was " E Shop " trained, apparently every dealer should have 2, a couple of emails and I got 6 months free of charge.

Why 6 months? Will you have to call your dear let every 6 months? Does not seem right to me. Dealers will spend their life responding to this kind of request and they do not tend to like to work for free.

Did the dealer mention anything about future cost of renewing the licence OR is it permanently free?

The dealer has not come back to me as yet, I assume the festive season hasn't helped matters but I read somewhere that there was an issue with Audi, the supplier and license renewals. The way I look at it, 6 months for free is better than nothing and a small inconvenience every 6 months.

Hello Q7,

If you get stuck... all I can do is offer my experience.
I have a 2011 Aug A6 C7 with all the traffic stuff google/touch etc.

In 2014 Sept the online data licence ran out....

I went to the dealer, although nice & did phone calls, all they become was a middle man.... between me & Audi Uk Customer services...

FASTEST WAY:

You ring Audi UK customer services
Have your REG. & VIN number handy. <<----

Telephone: 0800 699 888
(Open Monday to Sunday 8am to 8pm)
E-mail: (%20customer.services@audi.co.uk)customer.services @audi.co.uk

Explain your issue, they will sort it for you or will talk to Audi Germany to make sure your account is live on the DATABASE servers.

Get a reference for the CALL: or the name of the person your speaking to @ Audi UK customer service.

It normally takes them a few days (1-7 days) they will ring you back, if you hear nothing ring them..... again

They should call you back to tell you it has been extended, normal periods are 6 months - 1 year.
Then you'll have to do it again next time.....

The problem is AUDI don't know if they will charge or will give it for FREE for the future... so we have this situation with AUDI UK & AUDI DE & THEIR DATA CENTRE.

All the best.

p.s.
took 2 calls to customer services @ number given for me & they called me on the third call & apologised & said it was active for another year....
My dealership really had no idea..... but were really nice & made me an espresso.....

Thanks for the post ,

my dealer was very helpful , they passed my details to AUDI AG who are going to renew the licence "ASAP".

they didn't give a specific time on when it would be done, but will be hopefully within a week.

One other point, the system has an option to pop up a licence expiry warning before the end.... I have it turned on.
It's in one of the many menu's in the online licence.

I was fully expecting to have to call Audi Customer Services about my license when it expired (having read noscream's post a while ago). I enabled online traffic services in May 2012, so I was expecting to have to make the call in May 2015. I'm not sure when, but the expiry date changed - instead of being May 2015 it had become November 2015 when I checked on it in April 2015. The same thing happened in November - I was expecting to have to make the call, but when I checked it in October it had jumped on to May 2016. I honestly don't know exactly when the changes were made (I hardly ever check the expiry date in the MMI), and I'm assuming it's something my dealer has done of their own volition. Once again, a five-star rating from me for my local dealer (Stoke Audi)! :)

I'm replacing the car in April so hopefully won't need to worry about it again :)

MF.

My dealer had an email on the 4th of January from Audi uk , to say that

"I have passed these details on to Audi AG and will prompt this licence renewal to be actioned asap, I will let you know when I have received confirmation of this.

It’s hard to say a definitive time frame, it should be instant when updated on AGs system but it could take up to 5 days"

Its now the 13th of January and the licence has still not been renewed , I have informed my dealer and he is waiting for a response from Audi UK / Audi AG

I will post when a get the next response.

Took weeks to get mine sorted out then it was renewed for a measily six months. I told the bloke at customer care "I wish I hadn't bothered". Now using TomTom Go Mobile on my Android Phone - much more accurate.

My online traffic licence has now been renewed :D , i emailed My Audi dealer on the 4th Jan and it has now been renewed (14/01/2016) so in my case it took 10 days to renew the licence .

my licence is valid until 14/01/2018 , so they've given me two years.

Has anyone been through renewal of expired online traffic license with Audi UK recently? Mine has just expired and any tips before I call Audi customer services tomorrow would be most welcome.

Thanks

Thanks for that. I did call Audi customer services today, they have promised to update my license within the next 2 weeks but only for 6 months. Apparently there is a "backlog at the moment" and they are still undecided as to whether they are going to start charging in the future - hence only 6 month renewal. Must be a lot of us in the same boat I would guess....

Mine must be about the same - the traffic wasn't activated when I bought it in Dec 2014, it was enabled for about 14 months, then renewed. I posted somewhere on here about it.
