View Full Version : Obc display screen
Hi
I have Audi b8 on 2010 plate. I recently done a clutch andflywheel change on vehicle and noticed something unusual happening ondashboard.
On my dash there’s an OBC screen between the speed and rev.this displays various information i.e mileage, speed temperature, car doorpicture and so on. Recently I noticed screen goes off and comes on when itfeels like. When it’s off its just blank black screen and when it comes on itdisplay everything normal as it should do.
It can suddenly go off whilst driving and come back on maybefew hours later or working normal next morning. Once it’s on it will be problemfree few days before it plays up again.
Prior to my clutch change this never happened and I believeit is irrelevant anything to do with the clutch area but still concerning me inthe back of my head.
dashboard has never been removed or tampered with,
Any opinions or suggestions I need to look at.

Sounds like the DIS screen is failing, happened alot on B7 but I suppose as the B8s get older problems will start and creep into them.

what is the solution , change all the instrument cluster or is it possible to change screen only?
will it be a new part or used ?
is all plug and play or need reprogramming?
any ideas costs involved? Or maybe live without it if way high

Replace the screen, a company called BBA Reman fixes them and have a good rep.

whats your thoughts on replacing with a used one? I see many breakers selling on auction sites fairly cheap, will this need reprogramming? Only dealer able to reprogram or any one with a decent system?

You'll need it programmed to your car, including keys, immobilizer, mileage and general coding.

Sorry but nothing needs to be done with keys and immo. CP off, milage correction(dealer will do it only if you buy new one) and coding from old unit.

I'm thinking whether to swap the unit for a used one or send it off for repairs.
either way I will have to remove the current unit, Any write up how to remove this please?
i will be much thankful if possible with pictures , however anything is better than knowing nothing.
any body recommended in Birmingham or Nuneaton good for programming if I go down the route for a used unit?
thanks

Make sure your new cluster is not from car which is blocked in the system(before buy used cluster - vin check with dealer first)
Take your old coding for new one with cable!!!
1.Remove left vent trim(in your case right)
2.Remove display trim
3.Push down and pull out steering wheel as much as possible
4.Remove trim part on lower part of the cluster
5.Unscrew 3 screws(use magnetic screwdriver or something to avoid lower screw to fall inside)
6.Pull cluster out as far that you can disconnect connector(gently unclip connector securing to avoid breaking)
7. Take cluster out and insert new one in reverse order
8.Drive to audi dealer to remove protection.

gunnark your brill this will help me a lot.
what you mean by blocked on system? If so is the used unit a total useless?
which cable I need to take?
and finally no8,are you referring to blocked system ? Is this only done by dealer?

If the car is blocked in the audi online system - lets say stolen etc...audi will block the car in the system, modules like cluster have component protection which needed to take off No8, if its blocked, dealer cant help you). Trip to dealer you have to make anyway as they remove component protection.
So if you buy used cluster ask vin and check with dealer first(be nice with them)!!!
Cluster from blocked car is not useless, but you might not be able to clear blockage! So avoid!
For coding, use somebody in your area, who will take your cluster scan before swap(one option rosstech cable )

No8 is component protection which all modules have. This can be done by the dealers for a fee.
