Recently I bought used 2011 C7 3.0 TDI Quattro with basic RMC navigation unit but the SD navigation card was missing. Went to AUDI dealership and ordered 2015 SD card with maps which is pretty expensive.

My question is: Do I get some kind of free update after the purchase or I have to buy new updated maps each year?
My second question is: is it possible to upgrade to better 3G+ HDD navigation and which parts would I have to replace?
Thank you, regards.

Welcome to the forum.

You can probably answer your questions by searching here as much of this has most likely been discussed before.

In answer to your questions - and I may not be 100% accurate here but here is my understanding.
- Map update to SD card? No. And you don't get it for the HDD based maps until the "Ultra" revision of the A6.
- Upgrade to 3G+HDD? I doubt it would be economical unless you can find used parts and even then complex and would need Audi to recode components. Not even sure if you could have the HDD nav without the bigger MMI screen, and maybe the colour DIS (which would be a nightmare).

Others with more specific experience / knowledge will chip in but...

The general advice when folks have enquired about this type of upgrade in the past has been "Don't bother, take the extra £xxxx cost and avoid the trouble by trading your car for the one that you want".

The upgrade from RMC to 3G MMI is £3000 from Hazzy Dayz, who are probably one of the very few who can tackle such a massive install.

MMi 3G Plus HD Navigation (iPod video, A2DP, Bluetooth, Postcode & DVD) | HappyDayz (http://hazzydayz.com/mmi-3g-plus-hd-navigation-with-ipod-video-a2dp-bluetooth-full-postcode---dvd-player-from-rmc-4514-p.asp)

you can't upgrade to the online 3G+ because Audi control the database of cars so-equipped. You can, however, get a 3G dongle from various suppliers that does the same thing.

MMi 3G Plus TP Link Mini Router for Online Services and Google Earth (http://hazzydayz.com/mmi-3g-plus-tp-link-mini-router-for-online-services-and-google-earth-5266-p.asp)

that's an extra £325 from HazzyDayz.

so, the bottom line is, take your £3500-ish and buy a car with what you want installed already. It's much more cost effective.

Other problem with doing these installs is there's no guarantees that there won't be rattles from the dash and other places. I'm not saying hazzydays are bad installers but all it takes is a stupid clip to break or sit in the wrong place and you are forever chasing these rattles.

Have to reply to mention of Hazzydays. I've used the a number of times to add cruise, phones etc. Their work has always been first class. Gareth, particularly, will chase a solution to a problem until it's nailed.
