View Full Version : Please Help Rough Idle when EGR vacuum hose is connected

Hello all,

First post... shame its a problem

My car in question is a Golf Mk5 1.9 TDI (105), BKC.

It has recently had a new MAF and EGR. I noticed that the Vacuum hose from the Solenoid valve block to the EGR has a split in it (that explains the amber emissions light on the dash) but when I seal the split in the hose the car instantly idles rough (judders) and shortly after cuts out.

Is this pointing towards a faulty Solenoid valve block, or is there potentially any other causes I should be looking at?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Aaron

You are sure that the EGR vacuum pipe is on the EGR and not the black anti shudder valve actuator (plastic bit on the side of EGR) swap the two over and try again.

Sound to me like it's giving vacuum to the EGR pipe but closing anti shudder valve instead.

Hi Mini,

Thanks for the reply mate. I've taken a couple of photos to show exactly what's going on;

The hose in question, coming out of the EGR.

The split in the Vacuum hose.
29492

The split hose from the top of the EGR is traced back to the Number 2 port in the Solenoid valve block.

It's the right hose then... What MAF sensor did you put in it? I've heard many a story of cheaper "copies" causing huge problems. If I remember correctly, it's one of them parts that should "only" be bought genuine OEM etc?

I bought the MAF straight from VW because I also heard stories about cheaper alternatives causing loads of problems.

So I'm scratching my head a little bit, as far as I'm aware the solenoid valve block houses the N75 valve and the N18 valve there is one other EGR specific valve I believe but I can't remember.

A vagcom reading would certainly help things but up in the notth of scotland I'm guessing VAGcom owners are hard to come by.

Cheers
