Hi all,
I recently purchased my 2.0 litre TDI S line and after initially being very impressed by the fuel economy on the drive home and subsequent few days, I've found that I'm now only getting 40 mpg. This is well below the manufacturer quoting (which I know is always slightly inflated) but for a modern day diesel it seems incredibly low.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should be expecting more. There is very little driving around towns and the majority of my mileage is done on a duel carriageway.

Thanks!

I meant to say it's a 2010 143bhp model too.

Depends on the length of journey. Our diesels get slightly less mpg once it gets colder and short journeys have a big impact.

How are you calculating your MPG?

Around town after 8 to 9 miles I get 46 mpg & 55mpg at 70 mph on motorway

Put the car in 2nd gear, blast it until the revs are under the red and hold it for a few hundred yards. Then reset the computer

You will regain power and mpg

I believe that approach is colloquially referred to as an Italian decoke. You have to disengage from any mechanical sympathy before trying it!

I would say the opposite, its engaging mechanical sympathy.

If the car cannot breathe, it bungs everything up.

Diesels from tractors to lorries need Italian decokes. It returns power and mpg

I don't deny that it is effective and it is good to feel that the engine will become more efficient. but it still requires
that you push the engine in what I feel to be an unsympathetic way.

But if the engine is warmed up, you know the cam belt is not needing changed and you keep below the red in revs, its not doing any real harm.

I would say its controlled enviroment
