Have you cleared the faults to see if its a reoccurring fault? The gps antenna line is directly connected from the main head unit up to the roof antenna. If there is a join which im fairly sure there isnt it would be on the c pillar behind the trim

Thanks, 100% reoccurring.
I think I'm gonna have to start with roof antenna that's the most likely place for something to go wrong - maybe water in it?

No warranty? Does the outer cover look deformed? Unlikely water but anything is possible with audi. Try the head unit first its easier to remove with keys. Unplug cable and reinsert them. Might be a poor connection.

I'd pull the unit out of the dash and check it's all plugged in.

Update - error is constant and sat nav thinks I'm 20 miles away from where I am (must be last location) Satalites = 0

I managed to get the head unit out all seems fine so that's that ruled out....
I have 2 options now:
Buy a cheap gps off eBay - but where would I locate it? - would it work if I just left it in the back of the head unit (if it fitted that is)
Or
2nd hand gps original fin (approximately £35) but if have to get my local garage mate to fit, plus there is always the problem that it was a write and not the antenna??
I can't cope with these issues :-(

Dont despair, consider it all part of a learning curve especially if your planning to keep it.
If you buy a cheap gps off ebay around £4.99 iirc it will work and you can mount it ideally as high up as possible ie behind the nav screen or the top of the blower box. You could leave it behind the mmi unit and see what signal you get.
There is probably more of a chance the antenna will be knackered rather than the cable itself. Cable going faulty is rare and would need to have had some sort of 'intervention' to it to go faulty

Not the first time I've seen the fault on the C7, unfortunately you need to replace the roof antenna. If the car is still under warranty take it to the dealers, if not and the car has FASH then there may be a goodwill gesture..

i had the same, known problem, it is the sharkfin, went from 3 to 12 satellites after the swap, warranty under 100000km. It was really corroded on the inside.

I had the same on mine, replaced under warranty though. It was the fin and not the cable, so probably fairly sure it would be that item on yours.

Thanks all, fin ordered as I am nowhere near under warranty. Just need to figure out how to drop the roof liner without breaking it if anyone can point me in right direction??

Briefly; remove rear c pillar trims- held in PITA clips. Remove both rear roof grab handles so you can bring the liner down that bot much further. The top section of the liner along the screen should be held in with clips so it would need easing down. I have an avant so can not confirm as its very different in mine. I would have to check elsawin on my other pc.

Sorry to dig up an old thread guys, but I would love to hear if anyone has any more insight on this. My antenna has died, and I have one waiting to be fitted. I just want to make sure I do it properly without breaking anything.
Thanks

Hello everyone I've joined the long list of GPS antenna failure list. I'm well out of warranty so before dropping a cash load at the dealer I was intrigued to know more about the cheapo option of replacing the GPS antenna directly at the back of the headunit. Having searched I could not find a good guide/video of how to get the head unit out and would appreciate a guide or link as well as confirming the connector type at the back of the headunit.
To replace the shark-fin, I see from other threads that getting the headliner down isn't easy and no one has actually posting saying they managed to complete the job which makes me wonder if I should put the job into the hands of my local friendly indi or take to the dealer.
Lastly, can someone tell me if the shark-fin also carries radio frequency or is that from the rear window element. In either case I'm assuming this is separate to the GPS antenna at the back of the headunit?
thanks

So I got the car scanned but unexpectedly no fault codes returned. The indi said before going any further it was best to apply the latest software update but it had not been released to the aftermarket nor did they know when it could be expected so either wait or go to the dealer.
Firstly, any idea what no fault code return could mean?
Secondly my current software version is 0775 on hardware version H52. How behind is the version, does this mean anything to anyone?
thanks

Looks like I can now be added to the list.
Sometimes I have 6 or 8 satellites and then it just suddenly loses them. Seems to happen circa 1 hour into journey for some reason (often as I travel through Essex although i'm sure that's not directly related...!).
Going into local dealer next week and will be shouting at extended warranty people if they won't sort it.

You'll need to paint it as well.

Mine died a while ago and had a cheap gps aerial laying around so used that. Currently sat on top of the fan unit behind the dash and is working perfectly. Blue connector on the back of the head unit. Perfectly fine until i decide to find one and change it.

I have same issue and either need to remove headlining or do the easier fix ,however I am unsure as to what is head unit.Is that the Nav display, or the box in glovebox?I too am unsure how to remove.
I tried to look in avant boot on LHS where Bose system is but could not Identify Aerial lead. There is a small box attached to wing skin with a white connectors not sure if that is in some way part of Nav.If so could that be at fault rather than Aerial?
Thanks

Head unit is the front panel housing the sd cards and if you have it the sim card slot.
Nothing in the boot is for the nav system.
If you have the avant then its easier to remove and refit the new antenna only if your fitting a genuine gps antenna and if so then you dont need to remove your head unit

Thanks ,so aerial cable goes from roof direct to head unit?if that is the unit i think it is it is in glove box so should be easy to connect a cheap aerial to test at least.Or is that just to simple?
My thoughts on removing the head unit was to attach a cheaper unit from e bay.

I bought a £6 aerial off Ebay and stuck it above the glovebox. Works a treat

If your using a 3rd party gps then dont touch the roof one. leave it as it is and plug into the head unit. The only thing in the glovebox will be the cd changer for the 4G model

Now I am really confused! I have a 2009 model and in glove compartment are 2 units ,one CD changer and other is MMI with only 2 SD card slots and map CD
I am then not sure what head unit is !

You need to ask in the C6 model section. This covers the C7 :)
