Hi All,driving my 2005 2.0 diesel Avant this morning ,passed through a couple of big puddles in the relentless rain here in`t north, no problems. Floods not really very deep, 4-6" at most, carried on for a couple of miles everything fine , then engine suddenly suffered a fairly pronounced "hiccup", as if it missed momentarily, very short duration-1/2 second or so, and then carried on fine EXEPT- the dash glowplug warning light was flashing.
Car seemed okay, driving okay, so I continued with the warning light at steady flash until I could pull over. I switched engine off, intending to "re-boot" so to speak as the problem seemed to have gone. I turned the ign. back on, the glow plug light went out as normal so i hit the starter and engine very hard to start, took 5-6 secs spinning over on starter (usually1-2secs when hot) and eventually fired a couple of times then came back to life. Glow-plug light still flashing steadily so I thought: "get home quick whilst its still running " Drove ok 5-6 miles home but glow- plug light flashing all the way, then suddenly hiccuped and cut out as I turned onto my drive, leaving me half across the pavement. Hmmmm.... Hit the starter again, looooooong time turning over but eventually chimed in and I drove onto my drive, Glo plug light still flashing.

I lifted the bonnet suspecting water ingress, and all fine in the engine bay, but the scuttle where the battery is was 3" deep- drain blocked again- I`ve had this before when it was nearly FULL with rainwater, but no problems with the engine then.I had to clean leaves out of the drain which Audi put under the servo where impossible to get to bless `em. Anyway, some water in there today , unsure if its connected to todays problem or not.
Left car for ten mins, went to see if it would start, and it fired immediately, sweet as a nut, glo-plug light out....... Hurrah i thought,- but then I saw that the engine management light is on permanently instead....... Bugger, running fine, but E.M. light on all time.

Any body any ideas as to what it is??????? Help appreciated, Bob.

Needs on a diagnostic machine really. No point in guessing on what it could be on a modern car.

you need a scan with a diagnostic computer to find the fault code.

What car is it out of interest? Can't be an A7 with the details you have given.

Sorry, wrong forum, should be in A4, Ideas above my station.......:Blush2:I`ll ,er, get me coat........... Tried the car again, started up fine but with EML on, went to shops, came out, started up, EML OFF!- was A OK on return journey, so i`m hoping something that got wet has dried out.......... I`m going to put it up on ramps and clear the scuttle drain from below -only way I can get to it, and a free cold shower thrown in!!What fun! Bob.
