hi again guys. last week my in tank diesel pump gave up on me. the short version is , i thought i would save garage fees and replace it myself. bought a new one for £ 84 from europarts. read up about it, how to put it in in the same position the old one comes out. i did exactly that. but the new one is very loud. i can constantly hear it over the engine. europarts said they will swap it but I'm wondering if I've put it in wrong ?
has anyone done this job and have any tips. i have took photos but don't know how to put them on here yet.
its for a 07 reg 2.0 gt tdi. thanks guys.

Hi! I think you've installed it right, I think the haas pumps are ***** that's the issue! I've just been searching to find out why mine which I installed yesterday is so noisy and I think we both have the answer now!

I'm taking mine back tomorrow and replacing it with the premium one....there seems to have been a reason for Euro to be selling these pumps for £70 when everyone else's are £150 plus?! I think euro have one listed for £150 which is stated to be a better quality pump.

Likely the pump we both have will work ok, but it's so noisy!!!

Hope that helps?

oh good. I was wondering if I should upgrade to the other one. it's £130 at the moment online. I have spoke to them an it's going back on Thurs. still , they shouldn't be selling crappy ones at £84 !!
was beginning to think I had cocked up the simplest of jobs. hopefully both get it sorted then. I will update Thurs. thanks pal.

Or you have miss-diagnosed it and it is the mid pressure electric pump at fault or even the cam belt driven high pressure pump.

Hi Guys,

New member so bear with me please.
I have an 08 GT Sport Tdi 140 and recently the golf stopped and narrowed it down to Tank Sender Fuel Pump. Got a factors pump and fitted it, new fuel filter, off she pops no issues.
However, I have a 120 mile daily commute so I have noticed that when the car heats up after about 45 miles, the engine becomes lumpy/hesitant and not as responsive - the trip computer seems to read a lower mpg and overall car is not what it was to drive the same journey.

So: 1) Has anyone had anything similar, but like bazza1123 and gingadee - is the quality of a non Vw pump so poor it is causing this?
2) Anything else I am missing?

Thanks..

hi mate. I have very basic technical knowledge. but tomorrow my cheap pump is going back. for the hopefully better, more expensive one. is yours noisy like mine ?
do you get any eml on dashboard when it's running lumpy ?
when it gets up to temp you could try taking off the fuel pipe that feeds the filter, to make sure your pump is pumping fuel through ok.
like I said basic knowledge but hope it's a simple fix. my range on my mileage is very erratic too with the cheap pump in. constantly goes up and down.

Hi Bazza, on the night we fitted it the pump did seem a bit louder - but can't really remark anything now (took another spin there with radio off, etc - to be sure).
No EML on the dash when the car is lumpy.
I am thinking the pump is the cause alright and wondering if the factors will take it back if I get a VW dealer supplied pump..
Don't really fancying forking out twice..

Thanks for your input.

I ordered a new one online today told europarts I will pay the difference with exchange. im not having another haag brand pump.
I don't know who factors is.
I can hear my pump constantly running. almost like if your in your house and someone is hoovering upstairs. Can't put up with that on a long run.
hope u can change it and it's that too. fingers crossed.

For either of you, did the fuel seem to be black?

Hi!

Glad to hear you got it sorted - not taken mine back yet, but will do and get the more expensive one as well.

On the other points mentioned in this thread:

If you car is hesitant after warmup and/or showing up errors on dash from engine management - possibly suspect the EGR - a known issue!

There is no intermediate fuel pump in the system - more likely to be the tank pump failing if you have issues with a non-starter as these pumps from standard are known to fail - test the pump by putting a multimeter or 12v bulb on the power lines into the pump - got 12v when cranking but no fuel in the fuel filter housing? dead pump!

Black bits in fuel or dark looking fuel? Replace fuel filter regularly - garages are a bugger for not doing this even though they say they have!....and I suspect a few regular changes of the filter will help clear the system :-)

Geoff.
