Hi guys tricky one here :(
Car is a 2.0 tdi CAGA engine manual 6 speed jws gearbox.
last month had a problem where revs would rise to 1k and sit there so I thought great dpf is regenerating so I waited 30-40 mins nothing was "stuck" in regen? When i revved the car slightly sounded strange like a snorkle/gasy sound, left it running then coolant temp light came on so switched the car straight off... turned it back on eventually when cooled down did appear again, so took it to garage scanned it nothing so he changed dpf sensor and put some forte dpf cleaner in.... and did something to the sensor on the coolant tank as he said it wasn't reading correctly or something?
Since having the car back only put say 30 quid worth of diesel in so wasn't over half a tank, all was well.
Saturday morning before work I rimmed the car was full got to work no worries but on the way back from work pulled up and it was doing the same thing again grrrr and the snorkel noise that was there while trying to regenerate is there while not regenerating this might of been there all the time and never notice it, but when you say in 1st waiting to go into 2nd must be when revs drop on change the snorkel, gas noise is there.....
So since Saturday it hasn't happened but this noise is still there :(
Sorry for the LONG post but has ANYONE had similar issues?
Worth noting as well I only run on shell v power diesel had the car when it was on 82k now on 86k.

Odd to say the least, it would be interesting to have the DPF Ash Mass and soot loading blocks looked at to see what they are. What year is the car and can you see the part number of the DPF sensor? You may need a mirror. Do you know if he calibrated the new DPF pressure sensor.

Thanks for the reply, I know it's a bosch one that's all I know, I'm not sure if he re calibrated it to be honest he's a vw audi specialist in mansfield do deal with him through work so I know he knows his stuff.
I've spoken to a mate of mine going to try and force regen on Saturday see if that sorts it :(

It depends on what the loading values are, if they are too high it will not let it happen BUT there would be warning lights and codes to back this up.

No warning lights as of yet, and his program it just says about regeneration but doesn't give the load totals like it does on other vehicles he does it with. Strange

Got the car forced regenerated, within 3/4 weeks its back again same problem ... maybe its because I put some cleaner through the system the other day im confused to be honest now

You need to know the ash mass and soot loading values. I would be recommending the dpf be taken off and cleaned and when it goes back on, a new pressure sensor fitted and calibrated with the ash mass altered to 25% of the maximum value, then see if a regen is required.

Thanks, ill look into this its had a new pressure sensor fitted although im not sure if he calibrated it, id of thought he would of done he knows his stuff. Any idea how much that would cost Crasher as im sure from what ive been told its not that easy getting at these DPF's on a CAGA engine.

Yes they are an **** to remove and refit, it takes one of my chaps about six hours in total so 6x £per hour and £250 for the DPF clean plus £50 ish for odds and sos such as bolts, gaskets etc.

Ok well I'm going to try one more time force regen and I've got some cleaner for it cataclean dpf cleaner... I've used Wynns, forte in the passed but few of the customers at work rave about this cataclean dpf cleaner.... I'm unsure whether to put it in before or after the force regen might do it before see if it helps shift the ****... If this fails I've got no option to do the above.

Worth getting it scanned with VCDS. This link might be useful??
G450 sensor adaptation needed? (http://forums.ross-tech.com/showthread.php?1250-G450-sensor-adaptation-needed)

I get no error codes come up, no lights no nothing doesn't give me any indication what's wrong. That's the annoying thing about it.
Happy new year

VCDS can display live data from the DPF pressure sensor with the engine running showing the pressures difference. My 96k 3.0TDi reads 3hPa. The car also uses the readings from the lambda sensor, air mass flow sensor, temperature before the filter and the turbo etc. All can be monitored with VCDS for any strange values. I can't remember, but have you checked the pipes for splits??? Worth checking before spending a wad on a replacement DPF ;-)

Look in Advanced measuring blocks, around the 070 ish area I think, and see what the Ash Mass and Soot loading figures are.

Had the car force regen again. Right first time the test was run the soot mass was 0.58 the test got that down to 0.21 .... today the test has now bought it to -0.43 soot mass. The test took longer to complete after the test he then reset all the values to 0 so will see what's what now

I hope he did not reset the Ash Mass to zero, that is strictly for new DPF's only, not even those which have been professionally cleaned.

What should the soot mass figure be ?

Whatever the ECU has calculated it to be, once it exceeds the maximum the DPF must be changed or if it is cleaned, the Ash Mass figure can be reduced but there are no guidelines on what the level should be set at. In my experience I have found 25% of maximum to be a safe figure and non have caught fire, yet......

Alright no worries thanks I'll have a word with the chap to see if he did reset the figures to 0.0 I know when the test had finished the soot mass was minus 0.43

Ash and Soot are two different values.

Is there anyone local that can check the car on vagcon for me and recalibrate the dpf sensor as I'm unsure if the guy did it and he's gone away now... I'm in Mansfield Woodhouse. Thanks
