Hi,

I've got a 2012 A6 S-line Bi-TDI avant, I've fitted it with a TDI tuning twin channel box and set the box to max, the problem I'm having is that when auto is engaged in dynamic she hits the rev limiter when I floor it, which clearly doesn't happen without a tuning box fitted.
Why is this happening, if too much power then TDI tuning are selling a box not fit for purpose, I have actually spoken to them, they have told me to return the box and they will re-map it, does this mean reduce the power in the box? Which I don't want, as the whole reason for buying the box is for more power/better MPG!
Or is it a DSG problem ?
I know if I change gears manually there will not be a problem, however what I don't want is for my wife to commit herself to an over taking maneuver in auto, then loose power at the point of no return and potentially have an accident.
I'd really appreciate it if anyone can help.
Cheers
Ian.

have you considered turning the box down? i assume it's adjustable and not just a resistor inside some plastic?

Hi Yes, that's what TDI Tuning recommended, but it kind of defeats the whole point of fitting the box, I just think TDI Tuning should sell a fully tested and working properly box before putting it on sale, I want Max for the best MPG.

have you tried turning it down a single 'notch' assuming its a potentiometer and see what effects you have with power/revs/mpg?

Can you alter the gearbox CPU characteristics, make the gearbox fit the engine? Then you could turn the tuning box up to 11! MOAH POWAH!! :beerchug:

I think your problem is you are overloading the gearbox with too much torque.
The bitdi doesn't have a dsg box. Its an old torque converter type box.
You are probably experiencing the equivalent of clutch slip which is why you are hitting the rev limiter. It's slipping and letting you free Rev.
Can't be good for engine or gearbox.
These cars are probably working close to the limits so care has to be taken when tuning.

I doubt anything is slipping.
Turn the box down, and it'll be fine. None of these tuning boxes work well on the max setting.

I want Max for the best MPG.

Sorry that doesn't equate?

'Max' won't give you the best MPG, why I went for an 'economy' remap that sees 50+ mpg on m'way runs and 30+ around town.

If you are burying the throttle enough to increase revs that rapidly it hits the limiter before changing up, I'd say your mpg won't be improved much by the map anyway.

Or driving style.

I've had a couple of these tuning boxes before and max just gives you max bhp at the rev limiter. Power is better in the mid range so even if you have it at max setting a car with it set to mid setting(depending on how the maps are programmed) could out pace you point to point. Max setting probably only useful if you are on the autobahn on a straight line.
A lot of folk look for max bhp in a remap but where it matters most and where you feel it most is in the mid range.
