Hi,

Does anyone use the 'Car Finder' facility on Audi MMI Connect?

I have a MY16 A6 and although this feature does work, it does not always show the most recent destination where I have parked the vehicle and instead shows a previous destination.

Should it save the destination automatically as you leave the vehicle or do you have to do something on either the MMI or your phone to save the destination? If the latter, then this relies on you remembering to do this and the chances are that the one time you lose your car, you've previously forgotten to save your destination!!

Any info welcome.

I have an iPhone 6 and it seems you need to log onto MMI Connect each time you get into the car. If you do, you can access internet radio etc. through the iPhone and it saves your location when you get out of the car. If you leave the app running on the smartphone continuously in the background, it doesn't seem to always log onto the MMI wifi when you get into the car. That's my experience, unless of course someone knows better!

If it is a short trip, and MMI does not have time to 'get online' then it will only report the last place that it was online and then turned off.

I'm currently having a look at the beta version of Vodafone's xone car tracker (plugs into the OBD and reports stuff) and that has the same problem in 'warming up' when trying to do anything that involves car location... if on a short trip it does not have time to lock on to the start pos.

I only tried it once, but I seem to remember you had to do something on the phone app to make it remember your location - it didn't happen automatically.

If you've activated allow detection on your phone app, it should drop a marker every time the wifi link is broken with the car. If you've switched off the WLAN via the MMI or the phone wifi isn't connected to the car, it won't drop a marker.

Thanks all for comments/advice.

Although I have the phone automatically connect to the car's wi-fi and it always connects fine, I don't think I've always had the MMI Connect app actually open on my phone and I assume the app has to be open (even if it's just there in the background) for it to log when the wi-fi link is broken?

If configured correctly it does work. However I've deleted it from my phone as it really screwed battery life. When I noticed the percentage dropping at a greater rate than normal, I checked the battery usage and found that the MMI Connect app was responsible for 20% of this drop.
