Should MMI Joystick Do Anything?

I have MMI 3G in my A6 Avant (2009). If I move the joystick on it's own it does nothing!

All control of the system is still done by the knob as in previous versions of MMI that I've used in my previous A6's.

Is it broken?

I assumed it would work with all MMI functions? Obviously not.

I'm a correct in thinking the screen (with MMI 3G) is slightly larger than the standard colour screen?

Just checked the 2009MY brochure and the MMI 3G with 3D mapping and HDD has a 7 inch screen instead of the standard 6.5 inch version.
