VW Golf Mk4 4Motion Fuel tank noise

Hi,

I'm new to this site and need a bit of advice.

I have a mark 4 4motion golf, W reg that has only done 30K miles! There is a loud whining noise coming from the fuel tank. Any ideas what could be causing this?
