Indicator Speaker gone. Can I partially or fully replace Instrument Cluster?

Hi there,

I have had a long saga with the indicator speaker in my MidLine insturment cluster.

Part number: 1K0920861K
Golf Mk5 1.4 Petrol 2005

It went so I bought a spare on ebay and soldered it on - the solder pads came off when I de-soldered the old one, so I had to scrape back a bit of solder mask to get a good connection.

Worked great for a while but then it started SCREAMING out the speaker high pitched noises.

Which of the following is even possible:

Buy a second hand instrument cluster and put it in get VW/third party to code it for mileage?

Does the instrument cluster have to be the exact same part number, there seems to be loads of other part numbers? Barely any of my part number.


Get a soldering expert to fix the botch job I did? Wouldn't even know where to find one?
Use half of another instrument cluster to fix mine up?
Move to highline instrument cluster? Is this possible these days? Seems like the parts are rare...
Any other ideas? Its €480 new from VW. Ouch...
