Hi,

Newbie member here and looking for some help with a clutch issue I seem to be intermittently having.

I have a 59' plate Altea 1.9TDi. It has about 112k on the clock and recently has developed a problem with the clutch. The majority of my driving is on motorways, and on a few occasions in the last couple of weeks, after a bit of distance driving, (maybe 25-30 miles) the car sticks in gear. When I have to come off at a junction I am finding that I am struggling to get the car down the gears, or into neutral. I have to physically force the car into gear (1st or 2nd depending on the traffic when I come off the motorway). Once I have done this, it seems to be fine again, until next time.

All help or advice appreciated.

Change the gearbox oil first

Or at least check to see if it has oil in it

Thanks, I'll try and get it checked over the weekend, when it's daylight.

Happened again to me this morning on the M8 motorway into Glasgow this morning. What I did notice is that the biting point of the clutch seems lower after it happens (hardly have to lift the pedal from the floor before it engages). Also, if I pump the clutch pedal a few times, it goes away, or at least seems to correct itself. It also seems to happen only after long periods of driving without having to use the clutch.

If the clutch is hydraulic , it may mean then that you have a leak if you have to pump the clutch.

This could be the master cylinder behind the pedal or the servo at the clutch.

Check the reservoir.

If the servo is inside the bellhousing of the clutch, then you would be as well changing clutch / pressure plate and thrust bearing at same time. Its likely also that the clutch will have been contaminated anyway, hopefully its outside
