View Full Version : Another fuel flap failure

I had the dreaded jammed fuel flap last week. It had done it a few time sporadically, but this time, it was for good. The flap can be gently forced open by getting your fingers behind the left edge and pulling, which will get you out of a tight spot if needs be. Don't bother with the red pull cord inside the boot, it wont help with this problem when the actuator has gone bad.

I am just out of warranty, so enquired as to the price of parts which requires a new actuator and filler surround which is damaged in the removal process. The parts come to £37, and my dealer had them in stock, including the A6 specific surround. This tells me it is a common problem as dealers rarely carry any parts these days.

It may be possible to remove the surround without destroying, but this involves levering from behind which risks paint damage, so it isn't worth the risk. I pooped into my local dealer who fitted the parts for free there and then (took all of 5 mins), but I paid the £37. I could have argued on the cost, but for them to speak with Audi about a goodwill claim, would have meant a delay, and potentially having to book the car in for another day, so it wasn't worth arguing.

Common fault and had same issue on my q7. New solenoid too.
What I did notice is that if you tug the red cable a little then it comes back to life. I did this for a few days where I gave the red cable a little tension until the garage got the part.
