Good Evening All,

We've had the Golf (a 1.6FSI) for 4 years now and the heater has always been 'temperamental'. We still get the vehicle serviced by VAG and they haven't 'cured' the problem.

Having done some Googling I have removed the glove box and can see no issues with the recirculating solenoid or the one controlling the flow direction. All four speeds on the fan 'work' so I don't believe we have issues with the heater resistor.

With the vehicle on the move things start off OK and then 'deteriorate' and as we head towards another winter I'd like to get away from the windows misting up again. Operating the wash/ wipe or going into reverse cause a 'surge' and the sound of activity behind the glove box which kind of suggests that there is an issue with the recirculating function but it certainly doesn't manifest itself on the drive with me looking at it. I also don't understand the connection between possible fan speed, recirculation solenoid activity and the wash/ wipe or selection of reverse either.

I'd appreciate anybody's thoughts on what to do next.

Regards

Richard
