Just a bit of feedback on this unintended "mod".
While waiting for my Nokian Weatherproofs to arrive I took the opportunity of fitting the offroad tyres on 18" aftermarket wheels that I had been using on the C6 allroad I sold a month ago.
OK, they're 5% smaller and the offset's nearly 10mm different but I've got to say that the car feels so much more agile and "smaller"; so less like a barge and can be positioned with greater confidence. It obviously sits lower too which helps handling.
It probably sounds strange and maybe with driving it more I've become more "at one" with it. I had planned to just use up the remaining tread over the month it's taking for my new tyres to come to the UK distributor, but I'll be quite happy to wait a little longer while the car handles this well.
Aesthetically the ET45 offset means the wheels sit 14mm further in (inside is just 2mm further in), but you'd be hard pushed to notice they look wrong. Yes, they're a bit small within the wheel arch, but that's relative since the C7 allroad fills its arches more than the C6 allroad.
Old tyres: 255/45 R 19 on 9" ET37 wheels
Current tyres: 245/45 R 18 on 8" ET45
Waiting for: 235/55 R 18 on 8.5" ET35, but now thinking about 50 profile...
Pictures in same order, then tyres:
